Frequently asked questions
General
What kinds of repairs and services do you offer?
We offer a comprehensive range of services for acoustic, electric, and bass guitars. Our services include:
• Setups: Truss rod adjustments, action and intonation setting, fret polishing, and cleaning electronics.
• Electronic repairs: Pickup installation, rewiring, troubleshooting, and replacing pots and switches.
• Fretwork: Fret leveling, crowning, polishing, and complete refrets.
• Custom work: Nut and saddle fabrication and custom wiring.
How much do guitar repairs cost?
Repair costs depend on the service and parts needed. We offer a flat rate for basic setups. For extensive work like structural repairs, we provide a free evaluation and estimate upfront. Prices exclude parts or strings unless specified.
How long does a typical guitar repair take?
Repair times vary based on the job's complexity and our workload. Minor repairs usually take a few days. Medium jobs like advanced fretwork can take up to 14 days. Major repairs, like headstock fixes, may take several weeks. We'll provide a more accurate timeline after evaluation.
Why does a guitar setup take time?
A professional setup is detailed and involves more than just tightening a truss rod. It includes measuring and adjusting neck relief, setting string action, checking intonation, cleaning the fretboard, polishing frets, and testing electronics. These steps ensure your guitar plays perfectly.
Do you offer warranty work?
A: The Guitar Shop does not offer warranty repair services directly. If your guitar requires repair under warranty, we recommend visiting the manufacturer's website to find authorized service centers that can assist you. Each manufacturer has specific procedures and approved service providers to ensure your warranty remains valid. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are happy to help guide you through the process of contacting the manufacturer for your warranty needs. If you have any other questions or require general repair services outside of warranty work, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Can I bring my own parts for the repair?
Yes, we can generally install parts you provide. However, our standard warranty on labor will not apply to customer-supplied parts. For the best outcome and reliability, we recommend using our professionally sourced components.
What if my instrument is beyond repair?
We'll provide an honest evaluation. If the repair costs more than the instrument's value, we'll let you know and discuss the best options. For complex damage, an in-person inspection may be needed. Our goal is to do what's best for you and your instrument.
What payment options do you accept?
We accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards. Estimates must be approved before work begins, and final payment is due upon completion and pickup of your instrument.
What happens if I forget to pick up my guitar after repair?
We'll notify you when your repair is complete. Please pick up your instrument within 90 days. After that, it may be considered abandoned. Contact us if you need special arrangements.
How do I know I can trust you with my instrument?
We understand that leaving your guitar with a repairperson requires trust. We are proud of our expertise and our reputation within the music community. We encourage you to read our online reviews, ask for recommendations from local musicians, and speak with us directly to feel confident that your instrument is in caring, professional hands.
